Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It was first celebrated on March 8th, 1909 in honor of the 1908 garment workers' strike in New York City. The idea for an international day for women's rights came from Alice Paul and her fellow suffragettes in the U.S., following discussions about their lack of progress with President Woodrow Wilson.
It has been recognized as a global day celebrating the social, economic and political achievements of women since 1975 by the United Nations General Assembly. This year's theme is #PressforProgress.
Celebrate what you are proud of! There are so many reasons to be happy on this special day. Whether you want to focus on your strengths or your accomplishments--take a moment today to appreciate yourself and all that you've done (or plan to do) for yourself and those around you!
